Most of the outlet malls along the Rt. 1 strip are built in the New England style with small clusters of buildings nestled around landscaped parking lots. Parking is free and plentiful. The biggest concentration of stores is located within a one mile, 3 stop light area.
One of the most fun stores to visit, the Kittery Trading Post, anchors the strip. The 3-story general store is dedicated to outfitting families for outdoor fun. The Trading Post carries quality, top-brand gear. There are departments dedicated to hunting, fishing, biking, boating, archery, and camping to name a few. Nestled between the canoes and taxidermy there are housewares, footwear, food, and travel displays.
Other stores along the avenue of outlet malls offer merchandise in women’s, men’s, and children’s apparel. There are home good and cooking shops as well as sporting goods, book, candle, and toy stores.
Interspersed between the stores you will find coffee shops and cafes, fast food restaurants, several sit- down restaurants, and seafood take-out shacks. For a complete of Kittery Outlet Stores click here.
Just outside of the Kittery outlet mall strip there are more interesting shops to visit. Beyond the outlets the businesses tend to get smaller, and more family-owned. There are antique stores and farm stands. You will likely pass the When Pigs Fly company store and the Take Flight Aerial Adventure Park to scramble across.
If you are interested in staying overnight, several local hotels offer stop and stay packages. Check out this Kittery Maine Lodging page for ideas.
